Ontario ADU design & construction

Ontario distinguishes private vendor preapproval from City-owned standard plans. At review, the City offered no standard drawing download and its vendor list was still marked coming soon.

Current, property-specific review controls the decision.

Online records can be incomplete or stale. Final setbacks, height, utilities, access, hazards, fees, schedule, and eligibility require current agency information and the appropriate licensed professionals.

Plan validityOntario defines preapproval within the current three-year California building-code cycle.
Design changesChanging a preapproved design removes its expedited-review eligibility.
Public right-of-wayWork in the public right-of-way may require an encroachment permit in addition to the building permit.

Selected local requirements, not a complete zoning determination. Confirm the current rules for your address with the responsible agency.

Fees and budget checks

Ontario applies Building plan-check fees to vendor preapproval and warns that design changes can add cost. Ask for the homeowner’s separate site-permit estimate and any right-of-way charges.

How to start the permit process

Confirm design availability, label any accepted standard-plan submission as required and upload the application and ADU checklist documents through Citizen Portal Access.

Municipal catalog status

Ontario vendor-list status

The City’s reviewed page labels the vendor list “COMING SOON.” Its ADU Plan Submittal Requirements remain useful for preparing a custom or subsequently accepted standard design.
